Support for Procurement Practitioners

From 28 October 2024 significant new regulations will come into effect that will transform public procurement - the Procurement Act 2023. This important piece of legislation will change the way the public sector buys goods and services, helping make better use of public resources to deliver better public services and grow the economy.

The government has designed useful guidance and training materials to help ensure all public sector procurement practitioners are fully prepared in implementing the new regime. NEPO's Procurement Team are busy working their way through the training ahead of the reforms coming into place later this year, and have shared their top tips for completing the e-learning modules:

Training Resources

The government has released guidance designed to provide an overview of the new procurement regulations. There are several methods of learning we advise you check out if you work closely with procurement.

Knowledge Drops

These on-demand 45-minute videos provide guidance to both buyers and suppliers to help navigate the changes to the procurement regulations, including dedicated videos for SME and VCSE suppliers.

E-learning

This series of e-learning sessions support all operational procurement staff in implementing the new regime. Made up of 10 x 1 hour modules covering all aspects of the new reforms, such as key regulation changes, transparency and the competitive flexible procedure.

Learners who complete the course and achieve certification will be awarded a certificate along with an e-badge for adding to email signatures, evidencing attainment at Practitioner level.

Deep Dives

Aimed at procurement practitioners who have completed the e-learning modules, this three-day course will advance your skills on all things procurement reform to expert level, creating ‘super users’ across the public sector.

Those who complete the e-learning modules will be awarded a certificate of achievement and an e-badge.

Please note: the three-day course of deep dives is only available to the individuals your organisation have previously nominated to the Cabinet Office as deep dive participants.

E-learning Top Tips

Are you operational procurement staff looking to complete the e-learning modules? Our procurement team have shared their top tips to help you get the most out of the training, helping you prepare for the reforms coming into place this October:

  • Schedule in 2-3 hours a week to focus on a single module
  • Have a copy of the Procurement Act 2023 and current regulations to hand
  • Record notes as you go to help with your learning
  • Progress can be saved at any time, in case something comes up
  • If you fail any of the module quizzes, you can always retake them
  • Once you've completed a module, the Deep Dive courses will be made available
  • List key topics to discuss with your wider team
